During the occasion of BHOGALI BIHU, the annual post post-harvest festival,the centuries old tradition of fight between BULBULs is organised in the Hayagriba Madhab Temple of Hajo in Kamrup district of Assam(India).The tradition of Bulbul fight started centuries back when an AHOM king visited HAJO during Bhogali Bihu.The local use Bamboo traps to catch d birds in the nearby forest.The bird's owner who take their birds to the fight,prepare a BHOG(meal)containing bananas,a small quantity of cannabis,locally available intoxicating herbs,black papper, cloves & cinnamon & feed the birds regularly to gain strength to survive the onslaught during the fighting.The intoxicated birds which had been starving for a day are made to fight targeting a banana and with the stronger Bulbul emerging the winner after which both the birds are relesed.The man who monitor the fight & can take decision is called 'MASSING'.However the prizes(ie.a trophy & Rs. 2500) are won by a particular group Sonaritola or Bhoralitola.
BULBUL BIRDS FIGHT
During the occasion of BHOGALI BIHU or MAGH BIHU, the annual post post-harvest festival, people make out a house (known as Bhelaghar or Bhelapuji), stay on the uruka night, have a grand feast and in the very next morning they burn it down and pray the Agni Devta (God Of Fire).
